Introduction to Distributed Design:

Collaborative Practices with Open Design: Massimo Menichinelli

From: Fab Lab Barcelona in collaboration with the World Craft Council Europe

Reaching sustainability is a systemic challenge of transitioning to new practices, behaviors, infrastructures, artifacts, services, systems. Given the systemic nature of such transition, collaboration among multiple actors and stakeholders is increasingly an important strategy for reaching sustainability. Open Source communities have developed principles and practices for building from small scale to large scale successful collaborative processes. Adopting open source principles and practices in designing artifacts, services and systems gives many possibilities for designers and makers, and while this is often done thanks to digital technologies, it is mainly about a new culture of designing, making and collaboration that can transform our everyday practices with collaboration and sharing.
